Poetic Verse - words from the heart

The Dancer

The artist is the dancer at the break of dawn
A passion for perfection, striving for the goal

Grace is the one thing that keeps us from the worry of failure
Peace comes from the knowledge that even
Without that perfection there is still the passion

Even without the graceful step of the dance
The music will continue to play in the mind
And the passion remain in the heart

The Stranger

The man looked across at her, the woman he did not know
He noticed her strength, that which in herself she could not see

The beauty which radiated
Even in the shadows of their dim surrounds

She was happy to see him shyly look up once again
Their eyes meet, for that moment longer
The two were strangers no more

My Friend

You are my closest friend
You are my distant companion

In times of trouble I can count on you
To the distant end of time

Ease is not always ours, but compassion continues to reign
You, in my darkest hour have become my will to live
I can say no more of you than this
You are what love is to me

Fiordland

Warrior's Poem

Glistening steel of dagger and sword
Smoking dust under march weary foot
Blood soaked leather, mace in hand

Metallic gauntlets handed down, a battle torn history
Fierce and Courage charging defiantly against their foe
Belief of something stronger than death
To be enough to draw one to it
Or so ingrained the generations not breach it

Forever dream the freedom from tyranny
Gifted breast of fine woman, love finely spun like silk
Comfort you in your darkest times

Life must go on, as the loch mists come forth
On the fresh morning dew

Goodness or sadness, life must go on
But better it be regardless
When loved ones rest upon your heart

Only by My Wings

Seeking, searching, finding
What is this, this thing undiscovered
Soul divided
Unconquered goals

You know they are set by another
And what right do thou have
To set my direction
Or my dreams

Only by my wings
Shall I fly
For only I can see it

That sweetness in the sky
The scarlet sunset that is mine
For when I close my eyes
What do you see?

Now I hope you understand
For I have long since prayed
That it visit you

This simple sacred wisdom held
So now you can go your way
And I can go mine

But together
We may travel in the world
Ours to share

The Peacekeeper

My brother the soldier
Walk free now and feel the moss beneath your feet
Feel the sun upon your face

Some are simply soldiers
For some it is more than a profession
In the heart of the warrior it is more than simple trade

Very few shall die the way in which they lived
You my friend are one
Honour, service and sacrifice

Be free

As you served and made others free
No greater honour than that

You have served your country, your family, and your mates in the greatest way possible. You did one of the hardest jobs there is. You laid your life down for your mates and for many more. In the end, the light showed the way. And that light continues to shine.

My heart goes out to your kin.

God bless you and keep you.

Kia Kaha "Onward"

Rest in Peace bro' and remember to keep your kit squared away.

The Calling

In between the cracks of my mortality
I forge the sword of my dreams
With the hiss of steam
Come the anger of my misfortune
Dowsed in the love of my kin and kind

The doubts and pains
Find reprieve
In the depths of my soul

Staggering with the acceptance of my calling
There can be no distrust
In that alone, the will must endure
To see the end
A brighter day for those left behind

Fire burning beyond question
Into the darkest night
Symbol of my defiance
In everlasting life

A Gift from Heaven

Wings gliding down
The finest gift from glowing fields of green
Pure water, mountain-chilled blue

Sun glistens upon the essence of life,
Like ambiance cast across silk at the raising dawn
The beauty of nature, the strength of the web

Once defenceless, lair-bound
Shadows no protection
Light of the day too bright to bear
Secrets concealed a lonely strength
No, no. No strength at all

Time past
Healing slow
But healing none the less
Now, growing in strength, heart, mind, and body
Witness forthwith
A new life

Alive

As the nights grow shorter and the days colder
The world does not deserve thee
Though neither do I, you bless me still

Your touch is like the petal of a rose
Your scent a kindred spirit
Your eyes come upon me more brilliant than the morning sun
Your breathe comes to me like fresh snow, crisp and clean

Alive

Every new stroke swifter
The freshness upon your lungs
Gift of breathe
Your eternal peace

Now the wings embrace you
Those wings of your own making
Let me walk beside you now
In the warmth that they impart
A blessing to the world
That once betrayed you

A voice as sweet to me as a Tui calling
Amongst the branches spread across a mist filled dawn
Shimmering peace
Rested deep within
Great release

Alive

All this, a gift from Heaven, from you to me, from me to you

Friendship

You can kill someone with kindness
Or you can travel the hard road together

Its not the fighting with another
But the fight you wage within
The destruction of the spirit
The real damage

You can look back, know your true allies
They called a spade a spade
Still smiled after the tears
Had faith in you
Trusted you

And let you blaze your own trail
Make your own mistakes
Fight your own battles
Yet knew you were still there

And could call you friend

Every Soldier My Brother

Every soldier my brother beside me
Every airman my father in the sky
Every sailor my guardian from the sea
Every marine my not so distant cousin

Every man a common trait
Every man to serve
Every man a common goal

Victory in purpose
No regrets
Destiny

Surrounded by numerous foes
You are waiting for death
But I am one who dwells in the earth
Who fires from a great distance

Because of my hunger
My weariness, my pain
You are alive
You, the one I do not know

I chose this path
So pity is not my yearning
Only respect
That I be remembered, that the lessons learned
Will be enough

In the darkness
Do not crawl, my friend
Get up. Stand tall as they taught us
Now in their ignorance they spit
In their arrogance they curse
For the truth is beyond their reckoning, condemned

In the desert their ancestors bled
Our blood flows as one
There can be no separation
Upon which man falsely claims
In much stancher times
And of much sterner stuff
We are forged together
In the battlefields of an ancient time
In that ancient land

Trust in that
As the Turks and the Cretans have done
Our sons are theirs
As our sons are yours
You have paid your penance
Drop the chains
My brother
Be free

22 January 2008

I had put together the initial words a few weeks ago, before I left for home. Only now, after thinking about contemporary times - the collective works have found their true purpose. I dedicate it to those in the sandbox, one and all, to those I have known who have served, but most of all to Pilot A, who has struggled very much in a new homeland not of his own choosing, for far too long.

Remember bro', we of all know life is not a fair deal but we have been given the tools, blessed with the courage to win through, no matter the odds, and most of all the wisdom to understand these goings on while so many fly blind.

Don't fight now, but teach the few willing to learn.
